Springbok fans can rejoice after MultiChoice struck a Rugby World Cup sub-licensing deal with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

On Monday it wasn't clear whether the SABC would be able to broadcast games as SuperSport own the rights to the tournament.

But a statement by MultiChoice said the two had come to an agreement.

"A total of 16 matches may be broadcast by the SABC, including the opening ceremony and opening match, all matches that the Springboks participate in, two quarterfinal matches, one semifinal, the bronze final, the final and the closing ceremony," said the statement.

In the Rugby World Cup lead-up, Anlia Etzebeth teased a new song about the Springboks. Eben’s wife roped in Karlien van Jaarsveld, a former Springboks WAG.

Rugby World Cup 2023: Who are the favourites?

The Rugby World Cup kicks off in France on Friday with pundits pointing to a wide-open contest between four teams that are a cut above the rest. A skewed draw has placed all four sides – France, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa – in the same half of the competition, meaning they will face off as early as the pool stage.

Those four four teams have an almost equal chance of clinching the title, according to data analysts Opta, whose latest forecast gives Ireland a 21.7% probability of winning the competition, only marginally ahead of France (21.4%), South Africa (20.5%) and New Zealand (20.2%).
